I believe English class has been helpful for me. Now, I feel more confident when I go out, like taking a train or going shopping. I don’t freak out anymore if I take the wrong train. I can even make my own medical appointments over the phone. I understand a little more when people are talking to me. Knowing classmates who have been struggling with the same issues as me, such as  living in a new country and trying to learn a new language, is huge to me because I don't feel lonely on this journey.

I believe freedom is one of the most important things a person can have, because knowledge leads to freedom and human development. To me, education is a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting peace.  It's essential for individual and social development.  Specifically, in a city like New York, where people say it's the best city in the world, you can't truly say that if you don't promote education for people of all ages. We need education because it is  a way to create free and responsible citizens, capable of transforming their reality and contributing to the common good. That is one of the fundamental requirements for being the best city or country in the world.
