23/54
Inspired by the Black parents and children who challenged racial discrimination in the NAACP’s 1947 equalization case of Corbin v. County School Board of Pulaski County, Virginia, the 23/54 Project will directly engage with the lived experiences of Black parenthood in Appalachia Virginia. Local memories and stories from Black Appalachians will connect to significant historical events and global communities through a retelling of parenthood that centers a diverse Black perspective across generations, genders, and economic class.
